The Second Annual Kate Koogler Canine Cancer Ride, held September 10-12, 2004 at Ocean City, Maryland was a noisy, but great success! Our second annual fundraiser was held coinciding with DelMarVa Bike Week. Due to the genorosity of our sponsors, riders, participants, and other fundraising efforts, we raised $7,500. We are thankful to be able to donate the $7,500 to The AMC Cancer Research Center in Denver, Colorado. The 2004 ride was dedicated to the memory of Jessie Galloway - Wawrew
who lost her battle with bone cancer on June 11, 2004.
Dr. Teresa Koogler and her husband Robin present a check for $7500.00 from The Kate Fund to Dr. Andrew Thorburn at AMC Animal Cancer Center in Denver Colorado. The money is earmarked specifically to help fund a research project by Dr. Jaime Modiano called Genetics of Canine Cancer. This study is looking at already existing naturally occurring cases of canine cancer to determine why certain breeds of dogs are affected. It is hoped that with the answers to these types of questions the future of bone cancer in dogs as well as in people will be changed.
